Policy for Voluntary Compliance with Governor Gray Davis' Executive Order Regarding Energy Conservation

The Salinas Police Department has enacted a voluntary energy conservation plan to comply with the Governor's Executive Order regarding energy conservation.  This policy is a public safety measure designed in response to California's energy crisis.

The Salinas Police Department is asking the Salinas business community to substantially reduce their use of outdoor lighting during non-business hours, with the exception of any situation that would pose a threat to the health and safety of the general public, employees, or property.

The Salinas Police Department is requesting that all Salinas business owners complete a written energy conservation plan and keep it on file at their businesses.

The Salinas Police Department urges all business establishments to participate in this voluntary program to meet our electricity reduction mandate, so that enforcement actions do not become necessary.  Your voluntary participation will ensure public safety is not jeopardized by California's energy crisis.
