Is it illegal to park a large delivery truck near my house?
Salinas Municipal Code - Section 37-156 prohibits this type of vehicle from parking in a residential area. However, these vehicles can make deliveries of merchandise to local residents. Certain types are not prohibited, which include vehicles of less than one ton carrying capacity, and emergency type vehicles. All other commercial vehicles are in violation and are subject to
a citation.
What can I do if someone parks in front of my driveway or blocks the sidewalk in front of my house?
It is a violation of the law to park on the street while blocking a driveway. It is also illegal to park on the sidewalk. Generally, the Salinas Police Department handles these problems on a complaint basis. A citation could be issued for the violation.
Is it illegal to park on the wrong side of the street in a residential neighborhood?
Parking on the wrong side of the street is also against the law. A ticket can be issued if a car is parked on the wrong side of the street or parked so the wheels are more that 18" from the curb.
Can I park a car on the street while I am making repairs to it?
If you are forced to make emergency repairs to your vehicle you may park it on the street for a short period of time. Emergency repairs include: changing a flat tire, replacing a broken hose, or replacing a defective battery.
Repairs such as draining fluids of any type, changing or replacing engines, transmissions or differentials are prohibited. These are not emergency repairs. Violations for non-emergency repairs are citable under Salinas Municipal Code - Section 20-50(a) Salinas City Code .
I am selling my car and want to park it on the street with a For Sale sign on it.
Is this legal?
It is a violation to park a vehicle on the street for the sole purpose of selling the vehicle. This section is not intended to prohibit the owner from driving a vehicle to work or to go shopping that has a for sale sign in it. The violation can result in a citation and if the violation continues, the vehicle can be towed.
