The members of the Salinas Police Department operate under the philosophy of Community Oriented Policing in an effort to enhance the quality of life in the city.

Salinas PD Community Police Academy

The SPD Community Police Academy will start on Monday, June 2nd at 6:00pm in the SPD Briefing Room. The Academy will be held each Monday night for 12 weeks, with graduation on August 18th. The Community Police Academy will provide participants with an in-dept look at Salinas Police Department operations. Participants will go on a police ride along, learn about law of arrest, search and seizure, Canine operations, the hiring process and training process of new officers and more.

Those wishing to participate must be at least 18 years old and be willing to sign a waiver for a criminal history check as part of the application process. Applications can be downloaded at the salinaspd.com or picked up the SPD Front Lobby. Applications should be forwarded to Sergeant Jay Malispina, Community Services Unit and must be recevied by Wednesday, May 21st. Class size is limited to 30 participants.
