On September 30, 1993, Leyva attempted to abduct a 12 year old girl who was walking to school. The victim fought back and a motorist came to her aid. Leyva was driving a primer gray van that was eventually located. Leyva was tracked to a girlfriend's house but slipped out the back door as detectives approached. Leyva has been on the run ever since.
The FBI profiled Leyva's personality and feel that it is likely that Leyva will continue to be involved in child molestations and abductions. The FBI has issued a Federal warrant for the arrest of Leyva for attempted kidnapping and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
