Police Cadets
The Police Cadet Program is a part-time, paid position within the Salinas Police Department for students between 16 - 23 years of age who interested in pursuing a career as a sworn police officer. Students must be enrolled full-time in high school or if a college student, must complete a minimum of six semester hours each school semester. While in school the Police Cadet must maintain a 2.0 grade point average and conduct themselves in accordance with department policy concerning on-duty and off-duty conduct. Currently there
are five Police Cadets enrolled
in college and one enrolled
in high school full-time.
Police Cadets work 20 hours a week, adjusted with their current school schedule, in a variety of police related functions traditionally performed by the sworn police officer. Duties range from issuing parking citations, identifying and towing abandoned vehicles, completing non-priority police reports and traffic investigations, traffic control and working special events such as the California Rodeo and the California Airshow.
