My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Officers responded to a report of a victim of a shooting at 1115 Circle Drive. When they arrived they found a twenty-seven (27) year old male with a gunshot wound to his chest. The victim was in front of the house with several friends when a "reported" blue Chevy Silverado p/u drove by and opened fire. The shooter was the right front passenger. It was reported that the shooter said something prior to shooting but no one could elaborate. The victim was conscious at the scene. He was then transported to the Natividad Medical Center. He was not able to be life flighted due to weather conditions. At the time of this release, his condition is classified as critical but stable. He is awaiting exploratory surgery to determine the extent of injury caused by the gunshot. At this time we have not determined if this is gang related.
