My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

The 57-year old victim had just arrived home when he was approached by a Hispanic male suspect. The suspect demanded that the victim hand over his money and the victim handed over an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect fled the scene on foot. A witness to the robbery followed the suspect a safe distance away and told Officers he was walking in the area of Nogal and Freedom Parkway. Officers responded to the area and detained Luis Serrano, 29, who was positively identified as the robbery suspect. Serrano was lodged into County Jail for robbery.
