My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

The suspect approached the window of the business and contacted the clerk who had locked the doors because of the recent 211's. The suspect begged the clerk to let him in because he needed coffee so she unlocked the door to let him in. Once inside, the suspect grabbed an 18 pack of Budweiser and told the clerk he also wanted all the money. The suspect, a Hispanic male, 5' 11", 230 lbs., approximately 20 yrs. old, pulled out a black handgun with a long barrel and pointed it at her. The clerk then handed over some money. The suspect ran out with the beer and cash and got into the front passenger seat of an awaiting white Ford Econoline van. The van was seen leaving North on Kern Street.
