No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Salinas Police Officers were dispatched to an armed robbery at the Taco Bell. The suspect drove up to the drive thru in a dark colored car and made an order. Once the drive thru window was opened the suspect exited his vehicle, approached the window and pointed a black colored handgun at the employees. He ordered an employee to open the register, obtained an unknown amount of money and fled in his vehicle. A witness in the area provided a good description of the suspect vehicle. Officers made an area check and within an hour located a similar vehicle driving in the area of North Main Street and Harden Parkway. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Mercurio Bose, 27, of Salinas. He was identified as the armed robbery suspect. Stolen cash and a replica firearm was located inside of his vehicle. Once Bose was taken into custody officers recognized him as an armed robbery suspect from the Shell Gas Station, 417 North Main Street, that occured February 25, 2015. An image of Bose had been captured on surveillance footage at the Shell Station. Bose was booked into the Monterey County Jail for two counts of armed robbery and several counts of false imprisonment.
