My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: 300 block of Rainier Dr.
Officers responded to an armed robbery call in the 300 block of Rainier Dr. The investigation revealed the victim (21) was cleaning his truck in the driveway in front of his residence. As he was leaning into his vehicle, he was accosted from behind and a handgun was placed against the back of his neck. The suspect demanded money and took the victims wallet from his pocket then fled, running to a white four door Acura, then drove off.
The victim entered his vehicle and followed the suspect vehicle into Tehama Cr. where it turned around and came towards the victim. The female suspect pointed the gun at the victim and subsequently the two vehicles collided head on. The suspect was able to continue driving but was eventually located by officers in the area of Santa Teresa Way and Rosarita Dr.
The female suspect, identified as Teresa Carranza (26), exited her vehicle but was arrested a short distance away. Carranza was later transported to county jail where she was booked on armed robbery charges.
