My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

HMA suspect entered the 7-11 at Curts and N. Main and stood by the counter until the clerk walked behind then counter. As soon as the clerk reached the register, the suspect pulled a dark colored semi auto handgun from his sweatshirt pocket and jumped over the counter. The suspect said, "give me your money, fool." The clerk opened the register and then the suspect struck the clerk on the right side of his head with the gun causing a severe laceration and knocking the clerk out. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of money from the register and then fled the store running west on W. Curtis St. HMA described as, 20 to 21 year old, black hooded sweatshirt, blue pants. We are waiting for the video. Investigation continues.
