My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: Roosevelt Ave and Madeira St.
An officer on patrol was contacted by a citizen in the area of Roosevelt and Madeira Ave. reporting a possible shooting nearby after several gunshots were heard. Initially officers were unable to locate a victim or crime scene but a short time later, police were advised by hospital staff the a male victim of a gunshot had arrived via private vehicle to the hospital for treatment. The victim had suffered a gunshot wound to the face area. Although the victims' condition did not appear to be life threatening, the injuries prevented him from providing a statement.
Officers canvassed the neighborhood and were able to determine a dark colored Honda hatchback, seen leaving the area towards the highway, may have been involved. The investigation is continuing.
