My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

The 14 year-old female victim was walking home from school. As she reached the above location, a Hispanic male in his early 20's, approached her. She described him further as being 5'5" - 5'8", wearing a gray baseball cap with the letter "A" on it, black pants, a black short sleeve shirt over a gray short sleeve shirt, and white tennis shoes. The suspect told her to "come here." He then grabbed the victim by the arm and pulled her toward him. She was able to break his grasp and get away. Her 17 year-old brother was in the immediate area and heard his sister yelling, and came to her aid. The brother chased the suspect for several blocks before losing him. Officers searched the area for the suspect but were unable to find him. A "be-on-the-lookout" bulletin was placed and any witnesses are asked to please come forward and contact the Salinas Police.
