My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Officers responded to 20 block of St. Michael Way regarding a male banging on the door saying he was shot and needed help. Officers arrived and contacted a 19 year-old Hispanic male who was suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his right arm. The victim was attending a party on the 200 block of N. Madeira Street when 4-5 uninvited gangsters showed up. The victim was in the garage of the residence when the suspects started fighting with him and his friends. After the fight, the suspects started walking back to their vehicle and the victim decided to follow them. Once they got to their vehicle, which was parked on St. Helen/N. Madiera, one suspect fired three rounds at the victim striking him once in the arm. He described the first suspect as a Hispanic males, approx. 5' 5" and heavy set, grey sweatshirt, blue jeans, and tattoos on his neck. The other suspect he described as HMA, 5' 11", 200 lbs. He said the suspect with the gun was yelling gang slogans while he was shooting. The suspects then got into a white Acura and fled.
