My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: 300 block of S. Sanborn Road
Officers responded to a call of armed robbery with the victim stabbed in the neck, in the 300 block of S. Sanborn Rd. The victim (52) came out of the 7-Eleven convenience store and he was immediately confronted by the suspect who demanded money from the victim who refused to give him anything. The suspect, who was later identified as Alex Ramirez (24), took out a box cutter type knife and stabbed the victim in the neck causing a severe laceration. Ramirez fled the area.
Responding officers surrounded the area and conducted an extensive search that eventually ended with Ramirez located hiding in bushes near the freeway onramp. The weapon used by Ramirez was also found. Ramirez was positively identified as the suspect.
The victim's injury , although severe, was later determined not to be life threatening and he is expected to recover.
Ramirez was later transported to county jail where he was booked on charges of attempted murder and robbery
