My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

At 9:14 am Salinas Police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of S. Sanborn Rd. and Fairview Ave. On arrival they found a victim who had suffered a single gunshot wound. The victim was flown to a bay area hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Witnesses described three suspects running from the area, and were able to provide officers with a description of the three suspects as well as their direction of travel. As officers searched the area, they found three male juvenile suspects running from the area. The three suspects, two of whom are 14 years old and one 17 year old were taken into custody without incident. All three are suspected gang members and this incident is being investigated as gang related.
