My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: Pacheco St. & Ramona Ave.
A 25 year old male was standing at the corner of Pacheco Dr. and Ramona Ave. talking to a female acquaintance who was in a vehicle. A white sedan with two males drove up. The passenger got out and fired several shots at the victim, with at least one round striking him in the lower torso. The suspect got back into the vehicle and fled westbound on Pacheco St. The victim was flown to a Bay Area hospital for treatment. At this time, he condition was not known. The suspect was described as a male wearing a black hoodie and black baseball cap. Although this shooting was possibly gang-motivated, the victim did not appear to be involved in gangs.
