My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: Perez Street and Prado Street
Salinas Police Officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Sucre Court in North Salinas regarding the reports of shots being fired. Officers were conducting an area check when a 20 year old male called 911 to report that he had been shot. The caller said that he would be laying on the ground at Perez Street and Prado Street. Officers contacted the victim who had sustained a single gunshot wound to his his back. The victim had been walking in the area when he was shot. He is not completely cooperating with the investigation. The victim was flown to a Bay Area hospital and his injuries do not appear to be life threatening. This incident is being investigated as being gang related.
