No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Salinas Police Officers responded to the 1500 block of Marin Ave. on the report of shots being fired. Officers contacted a male and female victim who parked in the area when a white 4 door vehicle pulled up to them. The vehicle was occupied by four males. The victims heard someone in the car challenge the victims' gang affiliation. One of the occupants from the vehicle began to shoot at the victims. The victims described the suspect as being a male wearing a black colored hat. Neither victim was struck by gunfire. A bullet hole was located in a vehicle that had been parked on the street. This is being investigated as gang related.
