My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: 1100 block of Eagle Dr.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired into a residence in the 1100 block of Eagle Dr. The residence was occupied but nobody was struck by the several shots fired. The investigation revealed two victims, both 22, had been playing ball in their driveway when a suspicious green Honda was observed driving in the area several times.
As the Honda made a turn approaching the residence, the victims ran in the house as three to five rounds were fired in their direction. The victims were not injured.
Responding officers immediately began conducting a search of the area in an attempt to locate the fleeing vehicle which was ultimately located in an apartment complex on Buckhorn Dr. still occupied two suspects, a juvenile (17) and Jose Eduardo Garcia (18). Both suspects were positively identified and arrested. The suspect vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in Salinas.
Both Garcia and the juvenile who are known gang members were later transported to county jail and juvenile hall respectively and booked on charges of attempted murder, stolen vehicle and gang enhancements.
