My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: 700 block of North Sanborn Road
Salinas Police Officers responded to an automotive repair shop, located in the 700 block of North Sanborn Road, on a report of a male worker who was pinned under a vehicle. The victim was working on a Cadillac Escalade which had been elevated on two small jacks. While under the vehicle, one of the jacks gave way, causing the vehicle to fall on his legs. The vehicle then fell off of the other jack, landing on the victims head. He was removed from underneath the vehicle and was still alive when officers arrived. He had sustained life-threatening injuries. He was life-flighted to a San Jose area hospital in critical condition.
