No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: 2300 block of N. Main St.
Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 2300 block of N. Main St. When officers arrived they discovered the victim (35) had been battered by the suspect who had fled the scene. Other officers were conducting a check of the area in an attempt to located the suspect identified as Sylvester Gutierrez (36).
Officers located Gutierrez a couple of blocks away and attempted to detain him but instead he decided to flee, running away and trying to scale over a fence as he simultaneously reached for his waistband, He was tased and taken into custody. Officers recovered a loaded firearm Gutierrez had thrown over the fence. Gutierrez was uncooperative and was found to have additional ammunition in his possession. The firearm Gutierrez tossed over the fence was found to be stolen in Salinas.
Gutierrez was later transported to the county jail where he was booked on the listed charges.
