No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: Main Street and Gabilan Street
Officers responded to a traffic accident, possibly involving injuries, in the area of Gabilan St at Main St. The investigation revealed the driver identified as Victoria Alvarez (22) was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Gabilan St. near Main St. when she stuck a large planter box head on in the center median causing major front end damage to her vehicle. The impact caused the engine to break free from the engine mounts. The three occupants in the vehicle suffered only minor injuries.
Alvarez exhibited objective symptoms of intoxication and was arrested for driving under the influence, her level of intoxication was later determined to be three times the legal limit. Passenger Felicia Quintero(21) was also found to be intoxicated and unable to care for herself, she was arrested for public intoxication. A third occupant in the vehicle, Aaron Chacon (21) had fled the scene but was eventually located and also found to be intoxicated an unable to care for himself, he was arrested for public intoxication.
After a medical check at the hospital, all three were transported to county jail where they were booked, Alvarez for driving under the influence, Quintero and Chacon for public intoxication.
