California Highway Patrol Officers attempted to stop a vehicle after it drove into their lane of travel. The vehicle failed to yield to their emergency lights for several blocks then drove to the rear of an apartment complex. The driver, later identified as Rudolfo Villa, 27, fled northeast on foot through the complex. During the foot pursuit a single gunshot was fired. Salinas Police Officers arrived to assist along with additional CHP Officers. Villa was found hiding on a nearby school campus. A gun was found in a nearby recycling bin. It appears that Villa may have inadvertently discharged the firearm while trying to discard it as he fled from officers. No one was injured in this incident. A passenger in Villa's vehicle was detained but later released without charges. Villa was lodged into the Monterey County Jail for numerous gun and gang crimes.
