My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Officers responded to several calls about a shooting at Del Monte Avenue and Towt Street. Several reporting parties stated that the occupants of a red 4 door Ford Fusion shot at two males on foot. One of the males on foot shot back then both got into a silver Dodge Caravan. During an area check an officer located the van in the area of N. Sanborn Road and Del Monte Avenue. The van was stopped and the officers detained five males from the van. During a search of the vehicle officers located two loaded firearms. All 5 occupants were brought to the station. At the completion of the investigation, Antonio Guido (27) was booked for providing false information and felony probation violation, Daniel Medina (19) was booked for felony probation violation and Gonzalo Cerna (18) was booked for weapons charges. The other two occupants were released without charges. All were either identified gang members or gang associates. No crime scene or victim(s) were located from the shooting.
