No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Salinas Police Officers responded to the above address on a report of several shots heard in the area. Upon arrival, officers contacted a 17 year old male victim. He had been walking in the area when a vehicle occupied by 4 Hispanic males began following him. The victim told recognized the occupants as rival gang members. The occupants fired several rounds at the victim. He was not hit but rounds were located in the exterior walls of nearby apartments. The investigation was concluded at that point.
December 1, 2013: approximately 4 hours later, an anonymous person reported that the shooting suspects had returned. As Officers arrived in the area 4 suspects fled on foot. All four were eventually located after an extensive search. No firearms were located. A 17 year old Hispanic male was identified as the driver of the vehicle and Jesse Gomez, 18, was identified as the shooter. Both are gang members. Gomez was booked into the Monterey County Jail and the 17 year old was booked into the Monterey County Juvenile Hall for attempted murder, gang enhancements and conspiracy.
