Location: 1400 Block Garner Ave.

On October 19, 2015 at approximately 3:00 PM, Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1400 Block of Garner Ave. Ernesto Ruiz Martinez, 35, was found down on the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. It was determined that Martinez had been on a bicycle and was chased by two Hispanic males in a dark colored 2 door vehicle. At least one of the suspects shot at Martinez striking him several times. Martinez was initially transported to the hospital for his injuries.  Salinas Police Investigators who arrived to investigate noticed that it is highly probable that there were many people present in the area at the time of the shooting based upon the location of the shooting and time of day. 

On October 20, 2015 Salinas Police Investigators were notified by the treating hospital that Martinez died as a result of his injuries.

No. The Salinas Municipal Code  prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.
