No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Salinas Police Officers responded to the Wing Stop restaurant located at 1488 Constitution Bl. regarding a report of a suspicious person in the parking lot seen with a handgun. When Officers arrived on scene, they quickly identified and contacted the described suspect with a gun in the parking lot. As the involved Officers challenged the suspect, the suspect lifted his sweatshirt brandishing a handgun at the officers. Fearing that the suspect was going to shoot, the involved Officers shot the suspect resulting in the suspect's death at the scene. Three Salinas Police Officers were involved in this incident and were not injured. There were no injuries to uninvolved parties who were in the area.
Salinas Police Investigators are looking for additional witnesses or anyone who may have information regarding this incident. This investigation is currently ongoing and the identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. As in all Officer Involved Shooting Investigations the involved Officers will be on paid administrative leave while the initial investigation is being conducted.
