Salinas Police Officers received a tip that a drug transaction had been taking place on a regular basis in the back parking lot of North Salinas High School and also in a nearby parking lot next to the school. Over the past several weeks, undercover officers conducted a surveillance of the area and confirmed the tip.
On 4-9-14 at approximately 4:00pm, officers were again in the area and watched as a car drove into the parking lot of the high school, near the baseball fields and parked. Stevens walked back toward the baseball field and the car drove away.
The vehicle was stopped and the lone driver, Alberto Manriquez, 56, was contacted and arrested. Officers then contacted and arrested Ronald Stevens, who was near the baseball field. During a search of Stevens' car, officers found a small bindle of cocaine.
A search warrant was then served on Stevens and Manriquez's residences. Officers found approx. 1-ounce of cocaine and marijuana at Stevens house, which was under the control of his son, Shawn Stevens, 26. Shawn was arrested. All 3 men were taken to the police department for further investigation.
