My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Officers conducted a vehicle stop for traffic violations on a Chrysler 300 in the area of the 300 block of N. Main St. The officer contacted the driver, Dominick Vargas (19), and he detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle. Vargas and his two passengers were taken out of the vehicle. The subsequent investigation revealed a loaded gun belonging to Vargas in the vehicle.
One of the passengers, Gianni Chargualaf (20) was found to be in possession of marijuana and was later cited and released. All three individuals are known gang members. The second passenger was released without charges.
Vargas was transported to county jail were he was booked on charges of possession of a concealed firearm and gang enhancement.
