No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: Del Monte Ave. at Towt St.
Officers on patrol in the area of Del Monte Ave and Towt St. observed a suspicious individual loitering in the area, he became increasingly nervous as officers approached to contact him. This individual was recognized as known gang member Kevin Hernandez (18). A subsequent search of Hernandez revealed a loaded shotgun tucked tucked down his pants leg. Hernandez was arrested and taken into custody without incident.
Hernandez was later transported to county jail and booked on charges possession of a concealed weapon and gang enhancement
