Officers from the Salinas Police Department's Violence Suppression Unit observed a 17-year old male in the city parking lot, which is designated for city employees. The suspect was acting suspiciously and appeared to be looking into cars. At least 3 city employees were in the lot walking to their vehicles at the time. Officers attempted to make contact and the suspect immediately ran through the courthouse grounds. He was eventually captured after an extended foot chase and physically resisted arrest. Once in custody, officers recovered a loaded, .40 caliber handgun, which was still concealed in his waistband. The suspect is believed to be a gang member from Greenfield. He was treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained during the arrest and then booked into Monterey County Juvenile Hall on a variety of charges.
