My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Officers responded to the Tynan Village Apartments to a call of two suspicious individuals observed wearing ski masks and crouching near a vehicle possibly burglarizing it. Officers received a description of the suspect vehicle, a white GMC pick up. Officers observed a vehicle matching the description leaving the complex.
A traffic stop was initiated, the vehicle did not initially stop but eventually yielded on San Benito St. and officers contacted the two male occupants. The driver(17) and his passenger Juan Maravillo are both known gang affiliated. Further investigation revealed evidence in the vehicle confirming this was the correct vehicle involved in the theft of property from a vehicle at Tynan Village. In addition, a loaded firearm and ammunition were located. Both suspects were arrested.
Both were later transported and booked, the 17 year old to juvenile hall and Maravillo to county jail on various firearm related charges and gang enhancements.
