No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Salinas Police Officers with the Violence Suppression Unit attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Antonio Rosillo (23) for moving violations. Rosillo led the officers on a short vehicle pursuit. When the pursuit ended, Rigoberto Amezcua (18) and Miguel Amezcua (22) ran from the vehicle. Miguel Amezcua had a loaded and concealed firearm in his possession. Both were arrested a short distance from the vehicle. Antonio Rosillo and Jorge Hunter Lopez (19) were arrested in the vehicle. All four subjects were lodged in county jail for gang and gun charges.
