My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Officers responded to a call of a rape and robbery in the area of N. Main St. north of Boronda Rd. The victim (53) was walking from a friend's apartment when she was confronted by an unknown African American male near Lamar St. The suspect began harassing the victim and groping her. As the victim attempted to get away to a nearby pay phone, the suspect took the victim by force to the rear of a business where he proceeded to sexually assault her. The suspect eventually fled on foot towards N. Main St. The suspect also stole the victims property. The victim was able to call police and report the incident. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The investigation is on going and Salinas Police Department detectives are asking anyone with information to call 758-7321 or to remain anonymous you may call 775-4222
