My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Second request for asistance in identifying a robbery suspect. this release was originally published on August 12, 2014.
The Salinas Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying a robbery suspect pictured below. The suspect entered the Walmart store on N. Davis Road and concealed merchandise. He exited the store making no effort to pay for the concealed items. Once outside a loss prevention officer attempted to detain the suspect. The suspect assaulted the loss prevention officer and fled on foot to a waiting vehicle. The suspect made good his escape in the vehicle. The loss prevention officer was not injured during the assault. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male adult in his 20's, 5'8", 170 lbs., black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, red t-shirt and a black ball cap with a "P" on the front. The vehicle was a red Suzuki four door.
