My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: 1700 block Emerald Way
Officers responded to a call of a robbery in the 1700 block of Emerald Way. The male victim(42) had walked to the store and was on his way back home when a male individual called out to him and as the victim turned back he was struck in the face with metal knuckles causing a laceration over his eye. The suspect demanded money but when he did not obtain any he ripped a necklace off the victim's neck and fled. The victim was able to get away an made it home and notified police.
A second suspect was standing nearby but did not actively participate in the robbery. Minimal information was provided on the suspect. Hispanic male adult in mid thirties. Investigation continues.
