No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Detectives of the Salinas Police Department authored a seach warrant for the residence of a 14 year old armed robbery suspect at 916 Acosta Plaza #22. The Violence Suppression Unit made entry and secured the residence for the search. Prior to the actual service of the warrant, the minor boy was taken into custody at school. During the service of the warrant, detectives recovered a pistol and numerous rounds of ammunition that may have been used during the commission of the robbery. The minor was questioned and lodged at the Monterey County Juvenile Hall. The minor's father, Ruben Avalos Guerrero (38) admitted the gun belonged to him and and he knew that his son had acccess to the gun. A criminal complaint has been filed with the Monterey County District Attorney's Office for Ruben Avalos Guerrero.
