My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

A 25 year-old male, was walking in Natividad Creek Park near the skate park when he noticed a male sitting on a bench nearby. Without saying a word, the subject raised a gun in the victim's direction and fired a round, striking him in the leg. The victim was able to flee the area and returned to his residence, where he was given a ride to the hospital for treatment. The suspect was described as an African-American male in his 30s, wearing a black hoodie. There was no additional descriptive information given. The victim said he was new to the Salinas area and did not know why he was shot. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
