No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

Location: Railroad tracks @ 800 block of West Market Street
Salinas Police Officers were dispatched to the railroad tracks approximately 1/8th of a mile north of the train station regarding a pedestrian that had been hit by a train. Officers arrived on scene and located a Hispanic female in her early 40's deceased on the side of the tracks. It appears that this may have been an intentional act by the pedestrian. The pedestrian has been identified but her identity is not being released until her family is notified. The investigation was turned over to Union Pacific PD and the body was turned over to the Monterey County Coroner.
