My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

****Homicide Update ****
On Tuesday 3/18/14 at 7:12 PM, Salinas Police Officers responded to the 700 Block of Towt Street regarding a shooting victim. At the scene, victim Juan Carlos Pedraza (47) was found deceased. Refer to previous press release dated 3/19/14.
Since the shooting Salinas Police Department investigators have been diligently working on this case following several leads. On 3/20/14, investigators were able to identify Antonio Martinez (35) as the suspect responsible for the shooting death of Pedraza. Investigators, aided by the Salinas Police Violence Suppression Unit and SWAT team, arrested Martinez after he was seen coming from 18495 Kennedy Street in Salinas. Martinez was later booked at the Monterey County Jail for Murder.
