My neighbors keep a rooster in their backyard. Is this legal?
No. The Salinas Municipal Code prohibits any fowl or livestock to be kept as pets. This includes pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, etc. Roosters are especially bothersome because of the noise they create and the fact they are sometimes used for cockfights and gambling.

A 32-year-old male was standing on the west side of Sanborn Rd, just north of Market St. when he abruptly ran across Sanborn Rd directly in front of traffic. He was not in the crosswalk. The cars driving on Sanborn Rd had the right-away based on video footage. The male was struck by a vehicle driving in the south-bound lane and knocked into the intersection. The driver of the vehicle stopped and remained on scene until police arrived.
The pedestrian sustained head injuries and a road rash and was airlifted to a bay area hospital, where he is expected to recover. The driver had not been drinking, was licensed and insured and was not charged in this collision.
