Incident: Attempted Murder, Evading, Weapon Charges Arrest
Date:  2/1/2020
Time: 02:08 AM
Location:11 Block of Cortez St.

On 2-1-2020 at 2:08 am., SPD received several calls and a Shot Spotter notification of several shots fired in the area of the 1100 block of Cortez St. As officers approached the area, they received updated information from dispatch via witnesses who described the suspect vehicle as a black Lexus or similar bearing a temporary paper plate.

Officers observed a vehicle matching the description in the area of Mae and Del Monte Ave. They attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Lexus which did not stop.  A pursuit was initiated reaching speeds of 70mph before the Lexus was unable to negotiate a turn and came to a stop at Williams Rd. at E. Market St.

The driver, identified as Luis Valdez, (30) was taken into custody without further incident. Officers found a 9mm handgun and ammunition in the vehicle. Valdez allegedly fired the weapon at the victim who was standing outside his residence in the 1100 block of Cortez St. A nearby residence was struck twice by bullets. The victim was not injured.

Witnesses were able to provide information which helped to identify Valdez and his vehicle. Valdez was later transported to county jail where he was booked on charges of attempted murder, evading, weapon charges and parole violation. Once again community involvement and good police work resulted in a positive outcome.
