On Monday 1/13/2020 at approximately 9:31 hrs., SPD officers responded to a hit and run collision with serious injury in the area on Sacred Heart Church at 22 Stone St. Two women ages 90 and 68 were struck by a silver colored Suburban traveling in a northbound direction which continued to drive without making any attempt to stop. This suspect vehicle was last seen turning onto W, Market St from Stone St.
The two victims were transported to Natividad Medical Center suffering serious injuries. The 68-year-old victim has been released from the hospital and the 90-year-old victim is still in serious but stable condition.
On Saturday 1/18/2020, officers were able to locate the suspect in this case, Jose Garcia (63). He was placed under arrest for hit and run resulting in injury, driving without a license and a probation violation. A bail escalation to $200,000 was granted due to the grave circumstances of this case. Garcia was later booked into Monterey County Jail.
The suspect vehicle was located a few days prior and taken as evidence in this case.
