Officers responded to a call of a possible fight in progress involving a handgun. The witness indicated that the suspect was pointing the gun at another male and the witness believed the victim would be shot. An officer saw a male coming out of the carport area and challenged him. Alexander Chavero (18) turned and faced the officer while holding a chrome .357 revolver. Several commands were given ordering Chavero to drop the gun but he was not initially compliant. After a tense stand-off, Chavero placed the handgun on the ground immediately next to him and laid on the ground within reach of the gun. Additional officers arrived and Chavero was taken into custody. It was learned Chavero approached a 24-year old male and attempted to rob him of his car keys at gunpoint. He threatened to shoot the victim if he did not comply but the victim ran. Recovered was a .357 revolver with obliterated serial number. Chavero was booked in the Monterey County Jail on a variety of charges.
