A 25-year old man was standing with relatives in front of a residence. A black mini van stopped and the passenger exited. The suspect yelled a gang related comment and opened fire. Over 15 rounds were fired and the victim was struck in the foot. He was transported to a local trauma center by family members with a non-life threatening injury. No one else was struck. The victim and his family don't appear to be gang members so the motive is unknown but based on the comments made by the suspect, the case is being investigated as gang related.

The Salinas Municipal Code  contains noise ordinances that regulate certain kinds of noise.

Generally, noise is divided into four "classes".

• Class A Noise is defined as noise created by equipment operated in the public interest or for emergency or safety purposes. Such equipment includes sirens, street sweepers, garbage trucks, chipper machines, etc. Class A noise is allowed at anytime.
