An Amtrak train was was travelling southbound through Salinas in the area of the dead end of Sanborn Place. The conductor spotted a man walking on the track in front of the train. The conductor sounded the train horn to alert the man of the trains presence, but saw no response. The conductor activated the emergemcy stop, however, the train could not stop in time. The man was struck by the train and was found deceased by officers that arrived on scene. The victim was a 34 year old man that has been identified. That information is being held pending the notification of family.

The Salinas Municipal Code  contains noise ordinances that regulate certain kinds of noise.

Generally, noise is divided into four "classes".

• Class A Noise is defined as noise created by equipment operated in the public interest or for emergency or safety purposes. Such equipment includes sirens, street sweepers, garbage trucks, chipper machines, etc. Class A noise is allowed at anytime.
