Salinas Police Department will be hosting a STOPP (Strategic Traffic Observation and Prevention Program) operation in Salinas on April 15th. Officers from Pacific Grove Police Department, Marina Police Department, Carmel Police Department, Seaside Police Department, Monterey Police Department, and The California Highway Patrol will be joining us.

This STOPP operation will concentrate on specific traffic violations hazardous to pedestrians throughout the city of Salinas. We will focus on areas with a high incidence of traffic collisions and vehicle code violations to increase the safety of all motorist and pedestrians. The effort will attempt to reduce collisions by taking enforcement action while educating the public.

The goal of STOPP is to reduce traffic collisions. Enforcement is conducted using established best practice traffic enforcement strategies. Traffic enforcement strategies in use are based on collision data, enforcement activity records, traffic volume, and traffic conditions. This program is meant to enhance enforcement efforts by focusing on violations that cause collisions, and to assist the participating Monterey County law enforcement agencies in achieving their goal of a safer community.

STOPP operations are conducted in other participating cities in Monterey County on a rotating basis.

Operations are conducted in problem areas at high collision times and focus on violations known to cause collisions. Officers maintain high visibility in the community while working traffic enforcement, especially at locations with a high number of collisions.

Stay safe, drive carefully, avoid distractions.
